We value music and all it entails. Music lessons include listening to a range of live and recorded music, composing from a range of starting points, appraising their own and other music, and performing.

All children are involved in music-making, ranging from our lively assemblies, singing phonics in the classrooms to listening and watching live performances from professionals. Our budding musicians have the opportunity to perform to a range of audiences throughout the year. The children are invited to join our music clubs: Orchestra, Recorder group, Infant Singing Club and Junior Choir.

As well as having the opportunity to learn the recorder, there are peripatetic lessons available through the Music Service. Currently, there are many children who have Woodwind, Keyboard, Piano, Guitar, Drums, Brass, Violin and Cello lessons.

Spring 2016

We have had a great deal of enjoyment and success at the Wensleydale Tournament of Music and Song.

The school ensemble / Orchestra performed three pieces and came joint first.

Choir performed in a number of categories / classes.

1.  Round.  We came 1st (a score of 87 points / Distinction)  “Very well executed round, good clear words and the parts were clearly and confidently carried out.  Very enthusiastically performed.  Well done."

2.  Traditional British folk song (85 points / commended).  “Rhythmically this was quite a hard song but you had all the rhythms nearly and clearly.  Excellent words."

3. Sacred Song or Hymn.  (86 points / Commended).  "Beautiful performance.   A lovely legato tone with really clear words but again this is a really disciplined choir ( and you are really good at watching your conductor) so I think you could have done a bit more with the dynamics."

4. Two part harmony song. (86 / commended)  “A very enthusiastic performance with good attention to detail and some nice shading of the dynamics.  The unison line was well support and the harmony was secure.  Your words were really clear too.  Well sung."

5. Unison song  (We came 1st achieving 88 points / Distinction) “It is quite a difficult song to sing, it leaps about a lot and has some hard rhythms - you managed the whole lot really well.  Great words and a very even unison line.  Well sung.  I liked the nice soft ending."

6.  Choral singing where we sang 2 pieces and came 1st.  (88 points / Distinction).  Pack up your troubles: Really good performance, nice dynamics and well done for really taking the dynamics down - it’s quite rare.  I am the Earth:  A really good contrast to 'Pack up your troubles'.  Good strong words and an excellent unison line and good duo part singing too.  Well sung, another great performance from you."

Three of these pieces scores were added together and we were presented with the Margery Burrill challenge Cup which we keep for the year.
