Administering medicine at school

Further to our letter of 3rd March 2016 concerning the above and in order to comply with recommendations from County and also to further safeguard your child we have introduced changes to how and when we administer medicine to children at school.

School staff will only administer medicine that has been prescribed, is in its original container and where you have completed the “Parental Request for Medicine to be administered at school form - click here to downlaod ”.

A copy of the parental request form can be found on the website under “Noticeboard” or can be obtained from the school office.

If the prescription is for 3 doses a day then these must be administered before school, straight after school and before bed and school would not become involved in this.  However, if the dosage is for four times a day and provided the medicine has been prescribed, is in its original container and the necessary form has been completed school staff will administer one dose during the school day at the requested time.

Finally we have just been advised by the school nurse we are only allowed to have medicine in school that is prescribed, in its original container and with the dispensing details label on and therefore cannot accept any “over the counter” medicines (eg Calpol).
