First Admission To School

Children are admitted to Richmond Methodist Primary School in the September before their 5th birthday. New starters may attend school mornings only or full-time from September. We ask parents to assess when they think their child is ready to stay all day- either from the outset, after October half-term, after Christmas or after Easter. We have two reception classes.

Procedure For First Admission

Procedure for First Admission

Parents wishing to enrol their son/daughter for first admission to this school are welcome to contact the Head Teacher or the School Secretary to register an interest in a place at our school at any time in advance of the child’s expected entry to school.  We will ask you to give relevant details (child’s name, date of birth contact and address including email, phone number). Registering an interest does not commit you to applying for a place here but it means that we can keep you informed about our Open Evening in the Autumn term the year before your child is due to start school.  If you are unable to attend the informal Open Evening you are welcome to contact us to arrange a school tour.

School places are allocated by the Local Education Authority.    For more information about how to apply for a place please visit   The site contains guidance about the procedure to follow and the timetable. The deadline for the receipt of applications to the Local Authority for the following school year is normally mid -January. The Local Authority will write to parents / carers giving confirmation of the school place allocated in mid- April. Our school will receive a list of our new entrants at the same time and we will subsequently contact parents to advise of the transition arrangements for getting ready to start school.

Starting School Transition

We have a programme in place to help prepare the children for starting school. We hold a welcome meeting for parents / carers in June. This is followed by an induction programme for the children through June and July. This includes our staff visiting the children in their nurseries, the nursery staff bringing the children into school, a visit to the class for a morning or afternoon, and an invitation to KS1 sports day. We do all we can to make the child’s first experience of school, a comfortable and happy one. We hope parents feel welcome to use this time to share with us information which will assist us.

Admission Of Children Later In School Because Of Transfer From Other Areas

Parents who are transferring from another area can access a prospectus of schools in the area from the local Authority. Application forms for places are available from the LEA or the School. Parents are asked in the first instance to provide the school with details prior to requesting a place from the LEA. Please feel welcome to contact the school to request a visit.

Applications are made by returning the form to the LEA who will arrange admission, subject to places being available.
