Healthy school meals, cooked on the premises, are available each day using locally sourced fresh produce wherever possible. There is a three weekly rolling menu (changed each term) detailing each day's main course and sweet (with fresh fruit as an alternative).  We also offer a vegetarian option, jacket potato or sandwich option as main course. UIFSM- in September 2014 the Government introduced the Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.  This means that every child in Foundation Stage, Years 1 and 2 is entitled to a free school meal. The current price for paid meals for Years 3-6 can be obtained from the School Secretary. The current price of these meals can be obtained from the School Secretary. Payment for meals is always due in advance, ideally on a Monday morning for the week, or on the day - at the latest. Meals can be paid for via Parentpay www.parentpay.com  our online payment service, by PayPoint card at various local outlets (contact school office to order a card), by debit card in person or by telephone to the school office.

Lunchtimes are supervised by a team of Midday Supervisors.

Alternatively children may bring a packed lunch, but in the interests of safety, no glassware or fizzy drinks are allowed. The children who bring packed lunches take home any uneaten food as an indication to their parents of their lunch-time appetite.  School can, on request, provided packed lunches for children going on school trips.  The cost is the same as a normal school lunch.

New starters in their first six weeks are accompanied by Year 5 children who act as Big Friends. This is a happy experience for both parties. Big Friends can be distinguished by their red baseball caps.

Free School Meals

Free school meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • income support
  • income-based job seeker's allowance
  • income-related employment and support allowance
  • child tax credit with an income of less than £16,190 and not in receipt of working tax credit
  • support under part VI of the immigration and asylum act 1999
  • guarantee element of state pension credit.

Where parents are entitled to working tax credit during a four week "run on" period immediately after their employment has ceased, or after they have started to work less than 16 hours per week, their children are entitled to free school meals.

Children who receive income support or income based jobseeker's allowance in their own right are also entitled to free school meals.

Should you meet the above criteria, you can apply by using the application form available at  http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/article/25811/Free-school-meals .

Applications are usually processed very quickly.  If your child is entitled to free school meals you will receive a letter confirming the date when the meals will start. The school is also notified that your child is entitled to free school meals. In the meantime, you should continue to pay for school meals until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange a reimbursement of any monies paid whilst your entitlement is being confirmed.

If you are not entitled to free school meals you will be notified in writing.

New developments

With effect from24th March 2014 we are introducing an additional school provided meal option in the form of a healthy packed lunch.  We will continue to provide 3 other choices, ie menu main of the day, vegetarian option and jacket potato.  The packed lunch needs to be ordered by the children the day before.  Please see the letter here which gives more information.  If you do not want your child to have the cold option at all or want to set a limit on the number of days allowed please let us know via the website contact link below or in writing or by phone on 01748 822794.   You can also follow our catering team on Twitter. The link is http://twitter.com/RMSkitchen
